PGC Mixed Open

On Sunday 7th August the Club hosted its Mixed Open. Ninety Six golfers took part, representing thirty nine different golf clubs, which is a record for this event.  I am delighted to say that many of the participants are regular guests to this event and we were very pleased to welcome many newcomers.

The weather was perfect, likewise the course. My thanks to Kevin Clue and the ground staff, who all turned out early on Sunday morning to ensure the course was presented in tip top condition. The greens certainly out foxed many of the competitors. No PGC Mixed would be complete without the very popular halfway pit stop for complementary refreshments including a variety of delicious homemade cake. Following the golf, Tracy and her team provided an excellent and much appreciated carvery.

Then the players were delighted to be surprised by the guest appearance of Peter Alliss. Peter’s charity provides powered wheelchairs for disabled young people and is mainly funded by the Alliss Masters Wheelchair Classic. Fran Dowty, our last years’ Lady Captain, chose to support this with her fundraising efforts throughout her Captains year. So much so that she and the Ladies section raised sufficient funds to provide an amazing wheelchair for a youngster who would benefit from the enhanced mobility. Peter was delighted to attend our Mixed Open in order to present the wheelchair to young Master Frost. It was clear for all to see how excited young Cullum was with his new chair and it was obvious to all what a difference it would make to his mobility, independence and general welfare. We all wish him and his family well for the future.

Peter graciously agreed to present the prizes for our Mixed Open competition, which provided an added and unexpected bonus for all the winners.

The results are as follow:

Nearest the pin 13th     Mandy Yerbury (Rowlands Castle)

Next years’ PGC Mixed Open will be held on Sunday 6th August and we hope to be able to greet as many returning participants as possible. Everyone left clutching an entry form and I am delighted to say I have already received the first completed form with post- dated cheque! So make sure you have the date firmly in your diaries, we look forward to receiving your entries and hosting you again next year.
